LIONEL RICHIE HONORED AT MUSICARES GALA

The Recording Academy and MusiCares Celebrate an Icon's
Career and Philanthropy

Music-biz luminaries were out in force at L.A.'s Convention Center Saturday night for MusiCares' annual gala, this time hosted by Jimmy Kimmel and recognizing Lionel Richie as the foundation's Person of the Year.

Stars, whose music spans myriad genres, reinterpreted Richie and Commodores classics in his honor; think Florence Welch and "Dancing on the Ceiling," Chris Stapleton and "Lady," The Band Perry and "Endless Love," Gary Clark Jr. and "Slippery When Wet," Usher and "Lady (You Bring Me Up)," John Legend and "Easy," Demi Lovato and "Penny Lover," Dave Grohl and "You Are," Stevie Wonder and "Three Times a Lady" and Rihanna and "Say You, Say Me."

Don't fret. Pharrell also led a medley with The Roots, so "Brick House" was taken care of with additional help from Clark Jr., Tori Kelly, Leon Bridges, Corinne Bailey Rae and Little Big Town.

Other performers included Luke Bryan, Yolanda Adams, Ellie Goulding and Lenny Kravitz.

"Each year our MusiCares Person of the Year tribute honors an extraordinary artist and humanitarian who lends their considerable time and talents to raising the funds necessary to continue to meet the ever-increasing need for our programs and services," shared MusiCares and Recording Academy President/CEO Neil Portnow.

"And it is truly a privilege to be paying tribute to Lionel, whose musical gifts and philanthropy have touched millions of people around the world," he continued.
