GRAMMYS VS. HOLIDAY IN THE SUN FOR WEST COASTERS

The fact that the Grammys will air live nationwide this year, starting at 5pm on the West Coast and repeating immediately afterward, has many of those with a vested interest on edge.

Monday happens to be a national holiday, meaning most will be off work or out of school. And with unseasonably warm weather forecast for SoCal, this Presidents Day is shaping up as a day at the beach for lots of locals.

While there are two chances to watch the show and a bigger window for impulse downloading than usual, the notion of sitting in front of a TV or a computer, or staring at a mobile device, could take a backseat to kicking back on a summery midwinter day and evening.

With all these unusual elements in play, CBS’ decision to air the show live could prove to be a questionable one. We shall see.

For casual music fans, the lure of gazing at the sunset from a beach chair or firing up the backyard barbecue may be greater than watching a TV show.
