The Top 5 Highest-Grossing Films Domestically Over the Weekend

While The Revenant continued its awards-season reign, two debuts made the Top 5 this weekend: Dirty Grandpa and The Boy. The former is a so-called comedy, starring Zac Efron as a young lawyer tricked into taking his grandfather (Robert De Niro) on a roadtrip, while the latter is a horror flick about a living doll. Both received rancid reviews.

1. The Revenant (Fox) $16m 3,711/$4,312 avg. (week 5)
2. Star Wars: The Force Awakens (Buena Vista) $14m 3,365/$4,237 avg. (week 6)
3. Ride Along 2 (Universal) $13m 3,192/$4,060 avg. (week 2)
4. Dirty Grandpa (Lionsgate) $12m 2,912/$3,958 avg. (debut)
5. The Boy (STX) $11m 2,671/$4,216 avg. (debut)

Just outside the Top 5 lies another new release torn apart by critics. Sony's The 5th Wave, a post-apocalyptic, teen-driven adventure movie pulled in just north of $10m, which is a bit shy of its $38m budget.

On the bright side, at least we have this trailer to watch repeatedly until something more than decent pops up.
