JUDY ON VINYL: UME GOES OVER THE RAINBOW

Bruce Resnikoff's UMe has rolled out three deluxe remastered vinyl versions of classic albums by the legendary Judy Garland. The three platters, owned in their original form by every Jewish and gay person in America, are "Live" at the London Palladium, Miss Show Business and the essential Judy at Carnegie Hall.

London Palladium (1965) finds Garland performing with daughter Liza Minnelli on a handful of indelible numbers and singing separately; Minnelli contributed new liner notes to UMe's double-disc edition.

1961's Judy at Carnegie Hall, coming out on two 180-gram LPs, scored four Grammys, including Album of the Year, and spent 13 weeks atop the album sales chart. It's one of 50 albums selected by the Library of Congress for the National Recording Registry. Judy's performance on 4/23/61—including "Over the Rainbow, " "The Trolley Song," "When You're Smiling" and "Come Rain or Come Shine," among countless other stone classics—has been described as "the greatest night in show business history." Playwright Terrence McNally's new liner notes help explain why.

The 1955 release Miss Show Business, which UMe is bringing out on a single 180-gram disc for its 60th Anniversary edition, finds her delivering knockout renditions of (among other standards) "Over the Rainbow," "Danny Boy" and "Rockabye Your Baby With a Dixie Melody." Another Garland daughter with a terrific show-biz pedigree, Lorna Luft, penned the notes for the new edition.

When asked to comment, Resnikoff simply made jazz hands.
