BIEBER, 1D BOTH SMASH SPOTIFY FIRST-WEEK RECORD

Justin Bieber's chart-topping Purpose (RBMG/Def Jam) and One Direction's similarly overperforming #2 finisher, Made in the A.M. (SYCO/Columbia) have both smashed first-week records on Spotify.

The two albums blew past the existing global streaming record for an album in the first week of release previously held by The Weeknd’s Beauty Behind the Madness, which generated 90m streams.

Bieber now holds the all-time global record with a stunning 205m streams; he also broke the U.S. record with 77m streams. 1D finished the week with 106m streams worldwide.
