Eagles of Death Metal's Music Surges at Retail in Wake of Paris Attacks

In the wake of the devastating attack at their Paris show, the work of UMe's Eagles of Death Metal is on music fans' minds worldwide. It seems clear that EODM have become a global rallying point, with listeners buying the band’s music as a response to the attack and an expression of both global solidarity and defiance in the face of terrorism.

While the shootings at the Bataclan Theatre were part of a series of connected attacks on the city, they claimed a majority of the night’s victims. And while this was, in the words of U2’s Bono, “the first direct hit on music,” the aftermath has seen the music strike back.

The band's cover of Duran Duran's ”Save a Prayer” and their new album, Zipper Down, have both surged at retail internationally since Friday evening.

“Save a Prayer,” championed by fans as an elegy for the victims of the attack, is #2 in The Netherlands, Top 5 in the U.K., Ireland, Denmark, Hungary and Norway, and moving up all over Europe.

Zipper Down has moved to #4 at iTunes in France, #1 in Luxenbourg, #24 in the U.K. and #42 in the U.S. It has achieved Top 10 status in Norway, Belgium, The Netherlands, Ireland, Sweden, Finland and Switzerland. It has ascended into the Top 20 or Top 30 in an array of other territories.

Duran Duran has announced it will donate all proceeds from the track; the band says it is "considering options that are useful, peaceful & uniting."
