The Top 5 Highest Grossing Films Over the Weekend Domestically

Not that it's any surprise, but Sony's Spectre—007's 24th installment—remained the highest grossing film in America, earning another $35m this weekend. Worldwide, however, the blockbuster's already at $544m, putting it in the Top 10 films of the year at #8 just behind Fifty Shades of Grey ($570m). Meanwhile with less than a fourth of Spectre's stateside earnings, CBS' Love the Coopers turned out to be the highest grossing debut at #3.

1. Spectre (Sony) $35m 3,929/$9,010 avg. (week 2)
2. The Peanuts Movie (Fox) $24m 3,902/$6,202 avg. (week 2)
3. Love the Coopers (CBS) $8m 2,603/$3,227 avg. (debut)
4. The Martian (Fox) $7m 2,788/$2,412 avg. (week 7)
5. The 33 (Warner Bros.) $6m 2,452/$2,384 avg. (debut)

Debuting at #8, FIP's Prem Ratan Dhan Payo—a modern Bollywood romance—scored more than $2m across 286 theaters. The film broke first-day records in India and became the highest single-day grosser of all time.
