U.K. CHARTS: ELVIS MANIA REACHES FEVER PITCH

The King’s latest posthumous comeback continues to rack up off the scale sales, denying SYCO’s Little Mix and Polydor’s Ellie Goulding a shot at #1 on this week’s U.K. Official Albums Chart. Sony U.K. chief Jason Iley is aiming for a total tally of 500k before the year ends for If I Can Dream (RCA/Legacy Recordings), which is made up of orchestral reworkings of Elvis’ classic hits. With 168k combined sales in just two weeks, it’s an achievable feat.

If I Can Dream has sold 89k this week, double that of its closest contender, Little Mix's Get Weird. Last week's 79k tally gave Elvis the third spot on 2015’s fastest-first-week-seller list in Blighty, behind Chasing Yesterday (Sour Mash) by Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds (89k) and Wilder Mind (Island) by Mumford & Sons (81k). First week aside, If I Can Dream has landed the second biggest weekly chart sales of any album in 2015.

The third album from Modest!-managed Little Mix gives the girl group a new chart peak on the U.K. Official Albums Chart at #2. Also on her third album, Polydor star Ellie Goulding reaches #3 with Delirium after an aggressive campaign led by marketing man Jack Melhuish and Polydor U.K. chief Ferdy Unger-Hamilton.

Elsewhere, Rod Stewart’s Another Country (Capitol/Decca) falls two places to #4, and the deluxe reissue of The Beatles’ chart-topping album 1 (Apple Corps) rounds off today’s Top 5.

Adele is still Queen of the U.K.’s Official Singles Chart, as “Hello” (XL/Beggars) claims its third week at #1. The track outsold nearest competitor Justin Bieber’s “Sorry” (Def Jam) by 34k+ combined chart sales this week. It’s a multiple record-breaker as the fastest-selling song of the year, the U.K.’s one-week streaming record holder and has been certified platinum (600k sales). “Hello” is also this week’s most-streamed track with 4.7m listens, while Bieber’s “Sorry” boasts 4.51m.

Alongside Little Mix, SYCO President Sonny Takhar has a second Top 5 feat this week with the debut single from 2014 X Factor runner-up Fleur East, whose “Sax” is at #3 on the singles chart. Atlantic West London trio WSTRN score this week’s highest climber, up 56 places to #4 with “In2.” MNEK & Zara Larsson’s “Never Forget You” (Virgin) completes the Top #5 with a new chart peak.
