The Top 5 Highest-Grossing Films Over the Weekend Domestically

Bond is back. The 24th installment of the renowned franchise earned a whopping $73m, making it the top-grossing film in America this weekend. Spectre is now already the eighth-highest-grossing Bond film, with the second-best opening for the franchise, behind only 2012's Skyfall. The Peanuts Movie, meanwhile, came in at #2 with $45m and an A CinemaScore.

1. Spectre (Sony) $73m 3,929/$18,580 avg. (debut)
2. The Peanuts Movie (Fox) $45m 3,897/$11,547 avg. (debut)
3. The Martian (Fox) $9m 2,855/$3,257 avg. (week 6)
4. Goosebumps (Sony) $7m 3,051/$2,283 avg. (week 4)
5. Bridge of Spies (Buena Vista) $6m 2,767/$2,199 avg. (week 4)

Also noteworthy, Open Road's Spotlight earned approximately $302k across a mere five theaters in limited release. The detective story, which recounts The Boston Globe's reporting on the sexual abuse of children in the Roman Catholic church in 2001, stars Mark Ruffalo, Rachel McAdams and Michael Keaton.
