THIS CHART STORY IS UNBREAKABLE

Janet Jackson Tops The Chart With Her First Album in Seven Years;
10 Debuts Make Up the Top 20

BMG/Rhythm Nation’s Janet Jackson has topped the HITS Album Sales Chart with 106k and the Sales Plus Streaming (SPS) Chart with 112k for her 11th studio album (and first in seven years), Unbreakable.

It was a good week for Jackson considering that she was also announced as a nominee for induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame at the 2016 ceremony.

Epic’s Tamar Braxton, meanwhile, bows at #2, earning 37k for Calling All Lovers—and she’s also still in play as a contestant on ABC’s Dancing With the Stars. As for the rest of the Top 15, three heavy-hitting rock groups appear: Weathermaker’s Clutch (#7), 7Bros. Sevendust (#11) and Roadrunner’s Trivium (#13).Vanguard’s Collective Soul (#14) and Island’s Avicii (#15) also make chart debuts.

In fact, half of the Top 20 was comprised entirely of 10 new releases, when you note Century Media’s Queensryche (#16), Vanguard’s Matt Nathanson (#18) and Loud & Proud’s The Winery Dogs (#19).

XO/Republic’s The Weeknd re-enters the Top 5 with Beauty Behind the Madness, which also proves to be the big winner at SPS, boasting a difference of 34k when compared to album sales alone. Drake & Future’s collaborative mixtape, out via Republic/Epic, also reaped the benefits of SPS, ending up with a difference of 30k.

Big Machine/BMLG’s Taylor Swift breaks back into the Top 10 with 1989, which recently went 5x platinum, in its 49th week on the chart.

Interestingly, and perhaps dispiritingly, NOW/Legacy’s Now 55 ends up as the only entry in the Top 20 to see a percentage increase this week. Other acts putting up a good fight include MCA Nashville’s Sam Hunt and Southern Ground/Varvatos/BMLG/Republic’s Zac Brown Band, who both enjoyed gains.

Re-entering the Top 50 this week is RCA’s Elle King (#50).

Streeting this week are albums from Interscope’s Selena Gomez, eOne’s The Game, Show Dog’s Toby Keith, Capitol’s Decemberists, Kemosabe/RCA’s R. City and Jamie Lawson, the first artist signed to Ed Sheeran’s Gingerbread Man Records.
