YOGI BERRA: IT AIN’T OVER TILL IT’S OVER

Yogi Berra, the Hall of Fame catcher as renowned for his unusual use of language as his record 10 World Series championships (out of 14 appearances) with the New York Yankees, has died of natural causes Tuesday at his home in New Jersey. He was 90.

We honor the king of malapropisms by gathering some of our favorites:

The future ain’t what it used to be.

When you come to a fork in the road, take it.

It ain’t over till it’s over.

It’s like déjà vu all over again.

No one goes there nowadays; it’s too crowded.

Even Napoleon had his Watergate.

It ain’t the heat, it’s the humility.

Baseball is 90% mental and the other half is physical.

A nickel ain’t worth a dime anymore.

Always go to other people’s funerals; otherwise they won’t come to yours.

You better cut the pizza in four pieces because I’m not hungry enough to eat six.

Slump? I ain’t in no slump… I just ain’t hitting.

You can observe a lot by just watching.

It gets late early out here.

We have deep depth.

Pair up in threes.

Why buy good luggage? You only use it when you travel.

You’ve got to be very careful if you don’t know where you are going, because you might not get there.

He hits from both sides of the plate. He’s amphibious.

If you ask me anything I don’t know, I’m not going to answer.

I never said most of the things I said.
