Los Lobos, Lucinda Williams, Ry Cooder, The Mavericks, Lee Ann Womack and Don Henley were among the representatives of the old guard at the 14th Annual Americana Honors & Awards Wednesday night at Nashville’s Ryman Auditorium. They mixed it up with more recently minted roots-music luminaries Shakey Graves, Sturgill Simpson, Houndmouth, Jason Isbell, Nikki Lane, The Lone Bellow and Rhiannon Giddens,
The show, hosted by Jim Lauderdale, featured an all-star house band led by Buddy Miller and including Dominic Davis, Chad Cromwell, the McCrary Sisters and Little Feat’s Bill Payne.
Our own Holly Gleason was at the Ryman and offers her takes in an adjacent story.
