The Top 5 Highest Grossing Films in America Over the Weekend

War Room, a Christian drama, dethrones Universal's N.W.A. biopic, Straight Outta Compton, in its second week. Meanwhile, the fourth film in the Transporter franchise debuts, rounding out the Top 5.

The Top 12 earnings over last year's Labor Day Weekend were up 25.4% when compared to this year. That being said, the holiday break came late this year, and this weekend was actually up 21.7% from last year's Sept. 5-7th frame, when the back-to-school period proved to be the worst weekend in six years with $51.5m.

1. War Room (Sony/Columbia) $9.4m 1,526/$6,127 avg. (week 2)
1. Straight Outta Compton (Universal) $8.9m 3,097/$2,858 avg. (week 4)
