LG's HI-FI ASPIRATIONS

Korean phone builder LG announced plans today for an online music service, describing it not as a streaming initiative but a high-fidelity music download store that will launch in 70 countries including United States, Australia, Brazil, China, France, Italy, Russia and the U.K.

There are no specific pricing details yet, but users will get two free downloads per month plus a 50% discount on song downloads. The as-yet unnamed service will be bundled with the LG SmartWorld app and website. Smartworld is already a customer portal for apps and entertainment, this move marks yet another hardware company bringing music into their ecosystem in order to retain its customers.

Consumers in several other territories still embracing digital downloads, so the move may not be as regressive as it seems.

The new Hi-Fi music service will be available to the LG G4, G Flex 2, G3 and the G2 premium smartphones.
