JERRY WEINTRAUB, 1937-2015

Legendary artist manager, concert promoter and movie producer Jerry Weintraub died today at the age of 77, TMZ has reported.

Weintraub had been in failing health and had been at his Palm Springs home with family, but the cause of death has not been released.

After spending several years at MCA, the Brooklyn-born Weintraub formed his own personal management company. Among the acts initially managed were Joey Bishop, The Four Seasons and singer Jane Morgan. But he had his greatest managerial success after inking John Denver in 1970, though that relationship came to an acrimonious end.

Weintraub also managed and/or promoted shows for such big names as Elvis Presley, Frank Sinatra, Led Zeppelin, The Carpenters and Neil Diamond.

After transitioning to the film business, Weintraub produced such hits and classics as Robert Altman’s Nashville, Diner, The Karate Kid, National Lampoon's Vegas Vacation, and the Oceans series, appearing in all four films. He was also working on the new Tarzan movie, slated for 2016.

The most recent of Weintraub’s three Emmys was for producing HBO’s Steven Soderberg-directed Behind the Candelabra with Michael Douglas and Matt Damon in 2013.
