CHART STORY: ALL ABOUT THE BENJAMIN

Breaking Benjamin is #1, Tori Kelly Sees Huge Bow,Kacey Musgraves Follows Close Behind

Throw some goat, buddy. Hollywood’s Breaking Benjamin has topped the HITS Building Album Sales Chart with 141k and the Sales Plus Streaming (SPS) Chart with 145k.

Dark Before Dawn is the band’s first release in six years. Its predecessor, Dear Agony, did 135k in first week sales and is currently approaching Platinum status.

Capitol pop powerhouse Tori Kelly enjoys a very impressive bow, as debut album Unbreakable Smile snags 65k, landing her at #2.

Rounding out the Top 3, Mercury Nashville’s Kacey Musgraves hog-ties 54k for her sophomore studio album, Pageant Material.

Musgraves, possibly the only person who can pull off light-up cowboy boots, won Best Country Album (Same Trailer Different Park) and Best Country Song (“Merry Go Round”) at last year’s Grammy Awards. You can expect this follow-up to have a big look come 2016.

Another new artist making waves, Columbia’s timeless soulster Leon Bridges, also makes a splashy entrance, as his debut album, Coming Home, appears at #5 with 36k.

Big Machine juggernaut Taylor Swift grabs #6 in albums with 29k (flat) and Top 5 at SPS during 1989's first hours of Apple Music streaming (though the bump is all single sales) with 45k (-3%).

Meanwhile, Disney's Teen Beach 2 soundtrack debuts at #7 with 21k and Mercury Nashville's Canaan Smith debuts at #13 with 12k.

After snagging the first #1 album of his 49-year career, James Taylor drops very slightly to #3, down just 47% with 51k in his second week.

Thanks to a sale at iTunes, Imagine Dragons' Smoke + Mirrors (KidinaKorner/Interscope) jumps #38-15, tacking on another 12k, and Tupac's Greatest Hits (Death Row/Interscope) re-enters the chart at #47.

Powered by the sensational strength of "Sugar" and the buzz of new single "This Summer's Gonna Hurt," 222/Interscope's Maroon 5 reaps the benefits of SPS, seeing a difference of #9-29 when compared to album sales alone.

And thanks to this cool new thing called streaming (Heard of it?), Drake's mixtape, If You're Reading This It's Too Late (YMCMB/Republic), relishes a #12-27 difference. That being said, labelmate Nicki Minaj continues to sit at #20 at SPS.

Streeting this week are albums from Meek Mill, ByStorm/RCA’s Miguel, Reprise’s Neil Young, KidinaKorner/Interscope’s X Ambassadors and sensibility/Columbia’s Joy Williams.

In other news, APPLE MUSIC, APPLE MUSIC, APPLE MUSIC...
