LETTERMAN: THE FINAL PERFORMANCE

RCA's Foo Fighters to Play on Letterman's Last Late Show

Tonight, the party comes to an end, as David Letterman gets ready for his final performance with The Late Show.

Naturally, Letterman has invited RCA's Foo Fighters — his favorite band — to be the show's last musical guest. Most recently, the Dave Grohl-fronted band, appeared for a week-long residency in promotion of their docu-series Sonic Highways.

Back in 2000, Letterman suffered a heart attack and underwent emergency quintuple bypass surgery. He then requested that the band come and perform his favorite song, "Everlong," on his first post-op show.

And from then on, they've been close buds.

"Ever since that day, we've been in love," Grohl told the OC Register. "I don't know how many times we've played that show, but every time we do and I stand in the Ed Sullivan Theater, I never take that for granted."

Tune in to CBS at 11:35/10:35pm c for a fond, Foo-filled farewell.
