KURT COBAIN ALBUM TO ARRIVE
THIS SUMMER

The above headline, which appears in The New York Times, was likely designed to draw a double-take.

While ownership and rights details remain hazy, Brett Morgen, the director of Kurt Cobain: Montage of Heck, says he plans to issue an album of unreleased material from the more than 200 hours of music he came upon while researching the documentary. These include jam sessions, spoken-word riffs and Beatles covers. One of those covers, “And I Love Her,” is embedded below, and if its audio quality is indicative of what Morgan plans to put on the album, only obsessive Cobainophiles will find it worthy of more than one curiosity-satisfying listen.

“Kurt was creating an oral and visual document of his experiences throughout his life, and he did it in such a raw and visceral way,” Morgen said in an interview with the New York web publication Bedford and Bowery, the source of the Times item.

The critically hailed Montage of Heck made its TV premiere on HBO last night and is now available on demand for HBO subscribers.
