A NIGHT AT THE APRA

Sia Furler was the big winner at Australia’s APRA Awards, which took place Tuesday night in Sydney. The Australasian Performing Rights Association named the enigmatic 39-year-old artist Songwriter of the Year for the third straight year, while her “Chandelier” got Song of the Year. True to form, Sia chose not to attend the awards, instead having Fall Out Boy’s Pete Wentz accept on her behalf via a video clip in which he sported the requisite blonde wig. The APRA honors come on the heels of her four wins at the ARIA Awards, Australia’s Grammys.

5 Seconds of Summer took home the APRA for Breakthrough Songwriter of the Year—or would have taken it home had they been at the ceremony. Sheppard got Pop Work of the Year and Most Played Australian Work for “Geronimo,” Angus and Julia Stone Blues and Roots Work of the Year for Heart Beats Slow, and Gotye’s “Somebody That I Used to Know” was recognized for the third consecutive year as the Most Played Australian Work Internationally.
