David Geffen with Jed Bernstein (President) and Katherine G. Farley (Chairwoman) of Lincoln Center.
David Geffen is gifting Avery Fisher Hall at Lincoln Center--home of the New York Philharmonic–-with a $100 million donation, the New York Times reports.
The gift will completely fund the renovation of the 1962 building, with a state-of-the-art acoustical overhaul. The venue will be renamed David Geffen Hall this September to coincide with the start of the Philharmonic’s 2015-2016 season.
Geffen's extraordinary contribution will be paid out over eight years, with renovations beginning in 2019.
“I’m a kid from Brooklyn—it’s a big deal,” he said. “I watched them build this building.”
