The iTunes charts at last reflect the sudden explosion that is Drake's, um, "mixtaple" The explicit version of If You're Reading This It's Too Late (YMCM/Republic) hits #1 (with the clean version at #10 hard-charging track "Energy" moving on the singles side).
Early forecasts for next week, when it will make both of our charts its girlfriend, are in the vicinity of 500k, and around 520k or so SPS.
Sandwiched precisely between the two versions of Drake's monster is indie phenom Jacob Whitesides. The unsigned, Billy Mann-managed viral breakout, who's opening for Fifth Harmony next month, has leveraged his social-media campaigns to catapult his EP to #1 on iTunes' singer/songwriter chart--and now onto the big board.
Republic has another big album player in Florence + the Machine, who hit the Top 10 in pre-order.
Meanwhile, Ffity Shades and Taylor Swift have two singles apiece on the singles side. Stay tuned for more retail action.
