SALES UPDATE: TOP 10 TRACKS

Mark Ronson and Bruno Mars’ “Uptown Funk” is the biggest record in the world this year, consistently selling north of 300k every week in the States alone, boosted by a series of strategic and seductive TV performances, like the one on Ellen for which Ronson switched from rhythm guitar to his trusty turntables.

But the stateside breakout of Warner U.K.’s Ed Sheeran has the ginger-haired writer/artist inching ever closer to the top—and his Grammy performance has increased his momentum, as a glance at the iTunes charts at any point this week will have made abundantly clear. Boosted by his prime-time visibility Sunday night, Sheeran’s “Thinking Out Loud” grew 22%, and we expect that trend to magnify during the current sales week.

The same applies to Capitol crown prince Sam Smith, whose revived “Stay With Me” (+21%) is lurking at #11, two slots above "I'm Not the Only One" (+21%), with "Lay Me Down" on deck.

“Thinking” is one of eight Top 10 tracks in plus territory week over week, and this pattern is evident throughout the Top 200, as Grammy week triggered increased awareness of the nominees and announced performers.

Missy Elliott can of course thank last Sunday’s Super Bowl for her sudden bounty—she has three of the top 18 sellers, collectively totaling 220k and change. And Interscope’s Ellie Goulding (+12%) is riding the momentum of sister label Republic’s Fifty Shades of Grey ST. Taylor Swift, meanwhile, just keeps on keepin’ on, with a pair on the leaderboard plus a slight uptick on “Shake It Off,” which has more lives than a cat.
