Big Star @ SXSW preview

YOU GET WHAT YOU DESERVE: The Big Star SXSW show will indeed go on as scheduled tonight, with Jody Stephens, Jon Auer, Ken Stringfellow and a number of Alex's friends and fans celebrating the music of the reluctant auteur. While we don’t have a complete list of guest performers, we can confirm that Chris Stamey, Evan Dando, Mike Mills, M. Ward, the Watson Twins, Sondre Kerche, Amy Speace and possibly Susan Cowsill will take the stage to do their favorite Big Star songs with the surviving bandmembers. It promises to be a relatively loose affair, with the musicians gathering for the lone rehearsal at 5, but it’ll definitely be an emotional evening. “Alex probably would’ve hated it,” said Jody by phone just before the start of this afternoon’s Big Star panel, “but we’re doing it anyway.” (3/20p)
