AOL Puts Bebo on Block

BEBO ON THE BLOCK: Just two years after acquiring it for $850m, AOL has put its social network Bebo on the market, either looking to sell it or shut it down. According to comScore, the site has 5.1 million users in the U.S., down from 5.8m a year ago. And while Bebo couldn't compete with Facebook's 200m in the U.S. and 400m worldwide, it did put up some good numbers in Europe, where it was widely used. “Bebo, unfortunately, is a business that has been declining and, as a result, would require significant investment in order to compete in the competitive social networking space,” AOL Ventures EVP Jon Brod wrote in a message to employees.
