HEAD ’EM OFF AT THE PASS: At base, iTunes.com would allow customers to buy music without going through the iTunes program, enabling Apple to place “buy” buttons on sites all over the web, and to increase the degree of integration with web radio channels. But most Apple observers expect the tech giant to create a cloud-based service, enabling users to store their iTunes libraries in a giant virtual storage locker, making their music accessible for streaming from anywhere on any device, and to launch a related subscription service. These moves, which mirror the ambitious plans of Spotify, would take the offensive from the Euro sub service as it continues in its efforts to court the labels and set up a U.S. operation. Exciting, huh? (4/30a)
