More Mercer

MORE MERCER: The late Bob Mercer is being mourned by friends and colleague this morning. The legendary executive was instrumental in bringing EMI's successful NOW That's What I Call Music! brand to the U.S. He was also Managing Director of EMI U.K. in the '70s, signing Queen, Kate Bush, the Sex Pistols and many others. He managed Paul McCartney and Roger Waters, and helped Jimmy Buffett start his Margaritaville label in the '90s. Read an EMI release: "Those of you who had the privilege of working with Bob and saw him every day on the E floor at the Capitol Tower know what a positive force he was. He was a mentor to many, loyal, generous and straight-forward. His stories about the industry are the stuff of legend and always reminded us of why we're all in this business: we're passionate about music." (5/6p)
