Best Buy Launches Video Download Service

ON THE DOWNLOAD: Best Buy will now compete with iTunes and Amazon after launching a video download service beginning today. The company acquired the trademark CinemaNow from one of the oldest online video distribution services back in 1999 and will use it in hopes that competing retailers agree to carry devices with the service built in. CinemaNow will be included in select LG Blu-ray players, with Samsung and Insignia hardware to follow. Best Buy VP Chris Homeister says a subscription service might be in the future. Best Buy is using Napster as its digital music download service. Rival Walmart purchased video downloader Vudu several months ago with the same plan in mind. (5/18p)
