VANDY HONORS DON: Lincoln Financial Media Co. President/CEO and longtime HITS pal Don Benson will be one of six Vanderbilt University alumni inducted into the university’s Student Media Hall of Fame on Oct. 22. Benson’s father, grandfather, uncles and younger brother all attended the university, whose Benson Science Hall was named for his father’s uncle. The Nashville native worked at campus radio station WRVU and, after graduating in ’74, went on to begin his radio career at Jefferson-Pilot’s WQXI in Atlanta. The 30-year radio vet has overall responsibility for the operations of 14 stations in Atlanta, Miami, San Diego and Denver, but we remember D.B. best as Scott Shannon’s go-fer. He will be honored alongside fellow alumni like ESPN’s Buster Olney and L.A. Times Mexico City bureau chief Tracy Wilkinson, among others. (7/12a)
