Time Online Goes Pay

TIME IS MONEY: Time became the latest publication to go behind the firewall, pulling free content from its site and requiring readers to buy the print magazine either by subscription, newsstand or iPad reader to gain access. Each web article features the statement, “The following is an abridged version of an article that appears in the July 12, 2010, print and iPad editions of Time.” Older articles appear to have been removed from the site's archives entirely. At the beginning of this month, Rupert Murdoch's London Times began charging readers 2 pounds a week for online content, while RollingStone.com is going for $3.95 a month. The N.Y. Times is expected to unveil its pay Internet strategy by the start of 2011. ( 7/13p)
