Beating the Drums

BEATING THE DRUMS: MTV premiered its new series last night, Live in NYC, at Webster Hall with 3D-managed Downtown Records act and current mtvU Freshman 5 artists The Drums. Fresh off a hugely successful UK run of dates resulting in their summer single, "Let’s Go Surfing,” getting added to Radio 1, the Brooklyn-based band played before a packed house that included MTV execs Amy Doyle and Joanna Bomberg along with assorted city hipsters. Label promo guru Mike Bergin has already begun his U.S. radio assault, grabbing early airplay at Sirius and KNDD for the instant “hang 10:” classic. (7/21p)
