Brian's Gershwin Tribute

THEY CAN'T TAKE THAT AWAY FROM HIM: Disney Pearl's listening party at the Pacific Design Center Wednesday night for its Brian Wilson Reimagines Gershwin album was a huge success, with journo David Wild, who penned the liner notes, introducing Brian himself, who performed the album's a cappella rendition of "Rhapsody in Blue" with members of his great band. Among the revelers were Disney's Rob Souriall, who will be in charge of marketing the release, UMGD's Jim Urie, Fox Music's Geoff Bywater, legendary DJ Rodney Bingenheimer, Disney music placement exec (and ex-Real World star) Dominic Griffin, Detroit blues legend Sirius Trixon, Laurel Canyon chronicler Harvey Kubernik and the L.A. Times' Randy Lewis, who raved this morning: "[M]ore than simply presenting a collection of mostly familiar Gershwin classics in Wilson’s voice, the album processes them through his one-of-a-kind musical imagination. It makes his excursion through material that’s been so widely performed for the better part of a century a uniquely illuminating outing." Let the Grammy campaign begin.
