Alliance sold

THEY CAN STILL GET IT FOR YOU WHOLESALE: Alliance Entertainment, the largest wholesale distributor of CD, DVD and videogame titles in the U.S., has been acquired by Platinum Equity and the Gores Group from Source Interlink for an undisclosed purchase price, the new owners announced this morning. Alliance’s clients include Barnes & Noble, Borders, Amazon.com, Target.com and BestBuy.com. Said Alliance CEO Alan Tuchman, who’ll continue to oversee operations: “This is an exciting opportunity for our company, our customers and our suppliers. This transaction will provide us with additional operational and financial resources to continue our long-standing, proven commitment to customer service. We are now well positioned to grow the business going forward. Now, if you’ll excuse me, I’ll get back to blasting Arcade Fire’s new album on my office stereo.” (9/1a)
