Fogel, not Cohl, produced U2 tours

WHY THEY DON’T LIKE MIKE: In last Thursday’s N.Y. Times piece on Michael Cohl being brought in by Bono and the Edge to salvage the troubled Broadway musical Spider-Man (see our 9/9a item), the former concert promoter is erroneously credited with overseeing U2’s tours. That credit goes instead to Arthur Fogel, Live Nation’s CEO of Global Touring/Chairman of Global Music, who has been the band’s worldwide promoter for the last decade and a half. Cohl has a habit of regularly taking credit for the accomplishments of others, which has contributed to his unpopularity and lack of respect in the concert business. One prominent industry veteran noted that Fogel is much better-looking than Cohl, but immediately added that so is his dog. (9/13a)
