Hollywood Reporter Update

TRADE OR TABLOID? Plenty of chatter over Hollywood Reporter’s upcoming re-launch as a weekly glossy under the direction of ex-Us Weekly tabloid editor Janice Min, who joined the Conde Nast alum Richard Beckman-owned publication in May. First cover will be Christina Aguilera, whose manager Irving Azoff’s fingerprints are all over some of the pub’s recent scoops. Mins has added veteran film industry reporter Kim Masters and former Us colleague, Pot Culture scribe and American Idol blogger Shirley Halperin to cover the music business. Insiders are saying the move to a consumer-oriented product (with the requisite trade photos of execs) will be a disaster along the lines of e5 Global Media stablemate Billboard's similar editorial shift, which has left the venerable trade with its lowest ad revenue and subscription figures in years.
