Elton and Leon at the Beacon

ELTON & LEON LIVE: The Elton John/Leon Russell show hit N.Y.’s Beacon Theatre last night and was televised live on Fuse TV, directed by Cameron Crowe. Russell warmed up the crowd with a few of his hits, including “A Song for You,” “Delta Lady” and “Stranger in a Strange Land,” before Elton joined him and they played all 14 songs straight through from their just-released Decca album, The Union. Standouts included the first single, “If It Wasn’t for Bad,” “Hey Ahab,” “Monkey Suit” and the ballad, “When Love is Dying.” Russell split after that and Elton did his own one-man show, performing classics like “Your Song,” “Levon,” “Take Me to the Pilot” and finishing with “The Bitch is Back.” According to Showbiz411’s Roger Friedman, who was there, Russell just inked a deal with EMI to reissue his entire catalog, including his contributions to Mad Dogs and Englishmen and The Concert for Bangla Desh.
