EA Acquires U.K. Company

EA GETS U.K. GAMER: Videogame publisher Electronic Arts has acquired U.K.’s Chillingo, publisher of Angry Birds and other iPhone and iPad games, for less than $20 million in cash. The deal comes after Japanese mobile company DeNA’s recent $400 million purchase of mobile game publisher Ngmoco. Chillingo, based outside of London, has two of the top paid iTunes apps in #1 Cut the Rope and #3 Angry Birds. Cut the Rope, developed by ZeptoLab, sold 1 million paid downloads within the first 10 days of release on Oct. 7. Neither Rovio, which developed Angry Birds, nor ZeptoLab, are part of EA's acquisition. (10/20p)
