The Rent is Too Damn High: the Album

SINGING FOR THE RENT: Jimmy McMillan, the colorful candidate for N.Y. State Governor running on his own the Rent is Too Damn High ticket, who captured the fancy of voters during his appearance on the debates last week, has a new album coming out Dec. 7. That’s right, The Rent is Too DAMN High (Volume 1) will be released worldwide by the Governor hopeful, who had a popular single out as Jimmy Mack in ’75, “A Woman Is So Hard to Understand,” on Hamster Records. The first single, “What Is This,” is one of several rent-centric songs, including “R.E.N.T.,” “This is What I Like” and “Vote For Me.” An up-and-coming politician, karate master, former stripper and titan of verbal judo, McMillan is also a talented musician who cites Otis Redding and Ronald Reagan as his main influences. He wrote and recorded all of his songs in his home studio, in his Brooklyn apartment that he may, or may not, pay rent for. Below is his music video for “Ain’t Nothing to Talk About.” (11/2p)
