Cyber Monday sales record

FUN WITH NUMBERS: Cyber Monday sales hit $1.028 billion, breaking the billion-dollar barrier for the first time and setting the all-time record for online sales during a single day, according to comScore. In comparative terms, e-commerce sales on Monday were up 16% from a year ago. The average spending per buyer on Monday rose 10% to $60.05, while the total number of transactions increased 6% to 17.1 million. But comScore’s Gian Fulgoni cautioned, “It's important to note that some of the early strength in consumer spending is almost certainly the result of retailers' heavier-than-normal promotional and discounting activity at this early point in the season." We’ll see, Gian. (12/2a)
