Day one of hearing

AND SO IT BEGINS: During a preliminary hearing in criminal court Tuesday, prosecutors began laying out their case against Dr. Conrad Murray, as the first of a several dozen expected witnesses took the stand. Deputy District Attorney David Walgren, the lead prosecutor, said his team will show that Murray caused Michael Jackson’s death by giving him a lethal dose of propofol, failed to call 911 quickly and performed CPR with just one hand while Jackson was lying on a soft bed rather than a hard surface. “There were a number of actions displayed by Dr. Murray that showed an extreme deviation from standard medical care,” Walgren stated. Lawyers for Dr. Murray declined to make an opening statement. If convicted of involuntary manslaughter, Murray could face up to four years in prison. (1/5a)
