Tyler gets set for new gig

TALK THIS WAY: Do Steven Tyler’s Aerosmith bandmates view him as a money-hungry sellout for taking the gig? And will Tyler play the role of the mean judge on the revamped American Idol? N.Y. Daily News columnist David Hinckley pondered these and other questions in a profile on the new judge. "Yeah, I got some stuff from them," Tyler said of Aerosmith. "But it's not gonna fly. If something is worth doing, it's worth overdoing." As for who’ll be the designated bad cop, said incumbent Randy Jackson said, "We hear things like 'Who's gonna be the tough one?' 'Who's gonna be the mean one?'. Well, it's going to be all three of us. You'll get a full view here. If a performance is horrible, we'll say it's horrible." Tyler said one of the reasons he decided to do the show was the chance to work with Jennifer Lopez. "I was on a plane and saw her in a movie, and she was so vulnerable I said, 'I want to sit next to that.'” And when asked at the Television Critics Association if he’ll have to go on a five-second delay, Tyler responded, “Fuck no.” (1/13a)
