Beefheart Honored

O CAPTAIN, MY CAPTAIN: The L.A. City Council sent a representative to last Thursday night’s Captain Beefheart Symposium at the Echoplex, hosted by his ex-guitarist and longtime friend Gary Lucas, which included warm and often funny reminiscences from The Simpsons creator Matt Groening and high school pal Pamela Des Barres, among others. The official presented a commemorative certificate in the late, beloved musician/painter’s honor, noting the Council adjourned a meeting early upon news of his passing Jan. 5. (1/17p)
