Voice Pazz and Jop 2011

THE VOICE HAS SPOKEN: The Village Voice’s 38th annual Pazz + Jop poll of some 1,500 rock writers anointed (surprise, surprise) Kanye West’s My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy #1 album of the year, with almost twice as many points as the runner-up, LCD Soundsystem’s This is Happening, dubbing their post-Christgavian overview, “Rise of the Douchebags.” The rest of the Top 10 included albums by Arcade Fire, Janelle Monae, Vampire Weekend, Big Boi, Beach House, The National, Sleigh Bells and Black Keys. Cee-Lo’s exuberant Grammy nominee “Fuck You!” was the #1 single, followed by Janelle Monae f/Big Boi (“Tightrope”), Robyn (“Dancing on My Own”), Kanye (“Runaway,” “Power” and “Monster”), Big Boi (“Shutterbug”), Ariel Pink’s Haunted Graffiti (“Round and Round”), Sleigh Bells (“Rill Rill”) and The National (“Bloodbuzz Ohio”).
