Scepter Records story on Broadway

WILL YOU STILL LOVE ME TOMORROW: Yet another jukebox musical is heading to Broadway. Baby It’s You!, conceived by Floyd Mutrux, written by Mutrux and Colin Escott (both of Million Dollar Quartet), and directed by Mutrux and Sheldon Epps, will focus on Scepter Records, the ’60s indie label founded by Florence Greenberg, whose roster included the Shirelles, the Kingsmen, the Isley Brothers, Dionne Warwick and Lesley Gore. In other words, the show will dust off such classics as “Dedicated to the One I Love,” “It’s My Party,” “Louie Louie,” “Twist and Shout” and the title song. Beth Leavel (a Tony Award winner for The Drowsy Chaperone) will play Greenberg. Baby It’s You! has its roots in SoCal: it was originally presented at the Pasadena Playhouse in 2009 and was workshopped at L.A.’s Coast Playhouse. April 27 is earmarked for opening night. (1/25a)
