THE BEGINNING OF THE END OF THE FUR TRADE: West Hollywood can be the first fur-free city in the U.S., setting the precedent for the rest of the world. So say the organizers of a rally set for Saturday (1/29) at Matthew Shepard [Triangle] Memorial Park, Crescent Heights and Santa Monica Blvd. The primary speaker at the event is John D’Amico, who is carrying the fur-free message forward in his campaign for West Hollywood City Council by proposing to outlaw the sale of fur in West Hollywood. WeHo has a proud history in the crusade for animal rights, declaring itself an Animal Cruelty Free Zone in 1989, passing the first cat anti-declaw bill and a ban on pet stores selling dogs and cats. It also changed its language, declaring human companions of animals to be called “guardians” instead of “owners.” We urge you to come out and show your support for this ground-breaking ban on the commerce of fur, and put an end to needless suffering for the sake of vanity. The rally was organized by animal activists Ed Buck (323-848-9881), Shannon Keith ([email protected]) and Ellen Lavinthal ([email protected]). Go to the campaign’s Facebook group here.
