Super Bowl Commercials

SUPER PLACEMENTS: The Super Bowl commercials were generally a letdown, but there were plenty of music cues for you supervisor types. Jon Spencer Blues Explosion stepped in to cover Leadbelly's "Black Betty" (by way of ‘70s rockers Ram Jam) for a lively Volkswagen Beetle spot, while Kenny G’s much-ballyhooed Audi ad, Prison Sax, was a hoot (see Rumor Mill item below). Budweiser reprised the “Tiny Dancer” scene from Almost Famous for its annual Clydesdale promo, while two seconds of Jimi Hendrix’s “Foxy Lady” snuck into a Chevy Volt commercial. David Bowie’s “Ch-ch-ch-changes” underscored the new BMW, while Ozzy and Sharon Osbourne cavorted with a bearded Justin Bieber in a Best Buy spot for the new 4G phone (below). (2/7a)
