THEY’VE GOT A STAT FOR THAT: Mobile music sales, including songs, ringtones and music videos, fell 28% in 2010 to 221 million units, the bible reported, citing RIAA year-end shipment stats. While the number of subscribers to online music services was up 25% from 2009, from 1.2 million to 1.5 million, label revenues derived from those services fell 5.7% in 2010 to $201 million. In related news, 36% of U.S. mobile consumers now own smartphones, with the iPhone and various Android-powered handsets accounting for 74% of mobile app downloaders, according to a new survey from Nielsen.
