Tonight's Idol Finale

IDOL THOUGHTS: Tonight’s American Idol finale on Fox between country teens Scotty McCreery and Lauren Alaina will be a star-studded spectacular, featuring performances by U2’s Bono and The Edge, doing a song from their Spider-Man musical; Lady Gaga singing “Edge of Glory” and a possible appearance by the surviving members of TLC, according to the Hollywood Reporter’s indefatigable Idol watcher Shirley Halperin. Other highlights: Jack Black and Casey Abrams, Beyonce with the Top 13 girls, duets with Lauren and Carrie Underwood as well as Scotty and Tim McGraw. James Durbin will join Judas Priest, while Haley Reinhart will duet with the great Tony Bennett. Tom Jones will appear with the Top 13 guys. The rumor mill continues to insist judges Steven Tyler and Jennifer Lopez will perform, though it is unclear whether Aerosmith guitarist Joe Perry, who last played The Kinks’ “You Really Got Me” with Sanjaya Malakar during Season Six, or any of Tyler’s other bandmates, will join him.
