SCAN & MATCH: Terms of the deals between Apple and the labels would allow the company to offer what is known as a "scan and match" locker service, Kane and Smith point out. Unlike the Google and Amazon services, which require users to upload their music libraries, Apple's new service will analyze the user’s iTunes library and grant access to songs it recognizes without requiring an upload. But one hurdle still remains: Apple's has yet to finalize deals with publishers, and it’s uncertain whether the company will launch iCloud until those deals are in place. Some of the biggest pubcos are expected to agree to terms with Apple by the end of the week, but others were less confident. (6/1a)
