Another new Civil Wars fan

HOLLOW WORDS: Add industry veteran Alan Oreman to the ever-growing list of discerning music fans who’ve discovered upwardly mobile, genre-transcending duo The Civil Wars, their self-released albm Barton Hollow and single of the same title. “I just wanted to tell you that I could not agree with you more regarding this artist,” Oreman writes in an email to our own Lenny Beer, who championed the group in his latest On Records column. “I think their album is one of the best to come out so far this year. I just recently caught them at Largo and I was so impressed with their stage presence, artistry and chemistry. They have two tracks that are available digitally, that should also be available on the physical release.” Alan is referring to bonus tracks “I Want You Back” and Leonard Cohen’s “Dance Me to the End of Love,” going for 99 cents apiece at the iTunes Store. And while we’re on the subject, The Civil Wars will definitely appeal to fans of Gillian Welch and David Rawlings, whose first album in eight years, The Harrow & the Harvest, has the critics all aflutter.
