David Carr Passes

DAVID CARR, 67, a musician, songwriter and producer who was a founding member and keyboard player for The Fortunes, the U.K. harmony beat group which scored a Top 10 hit in the U.S. and Britain with “You’ve Got Your Troubles” in 1965, died of a heart attack. Carr went on to join Rock and Roll Hall of Fame surf group The Ventures in the early ‘70s, playing Hammond organ on such songs as “Walk Don’t Run” and “Perfidia.” Carr was a longtime partner of rock legend Kim Fowley, as musical collaborator, business manager and father figure. For the past 15 years, Carr worked at the KuBro Group, a publicity and media company, with partner Harvey Kubernik. Among his Peer Music copyrights are Cherie Currie’s “Beauty’s Only Skin Deep” and Fowley’s “Black Camels of Lavendar Hill.” He is survived by daughter Amanda and son Matthew.
